I think the much wider availability of information about the Huskers
on the Internet these days compared to the early or mid 90's is the
biggest factor.

The total number of people who left because they felt mistreated is 
probably fairly small, no more than 25 I would guess.  However, that did
include some very active posters.

When I was having trouble with the gateway to nebr.sports.unl last year,
I heard from aroud a dozen people, some of whom joined the list.

The last software change also cut the numbers, though somewhat artificially
because the 'husker news' subset had around 360 people on it in 2001, 
nearly 100 of whom were also on the full list or the daily digest.  (Some 
were on all 3.)  The number of unique addresses was around 850 in February 
2001.

The list has been running in a range of from about 400 to 500 for the
last 3 years.  It goes up a bit around the start of the football season 
and this year I think it started to tail off ahead of Christmas.

Making it easier to find the list and subscribe to it might pick the 
numbers back up a bit, but for the most part we've got a pretty agreeable 
group right now.
