Yes, since this all may be really important some day when they chronicle the
history of Nebraska fandom. . . . :-)
I usually lurk too because I don't have the knowledge to contribute! You all
certainly have helped increase my level of understanding of the great game of
football though.
I'm 45, born and raised in small town Nebraska--Winside, in the NE part of the
state. Big town of 400 people. My Dad loves Husker football and it was just a
part of the routine when we grew up. I remember having the opportunity to go to
one or two games when I was growing up (4 girls and Dad had to rotate the
occasional ticket!). I graduated from the Medical Center in Omaha so we got
season tickets since the school is part of UNL. I recall that they were $15-$18
for the whole season! Our seats were in the section next to the band.
Unfortunately, like some of you have admitted, I also don't recall everything
that happened at the games I attended in college as we usually brought hidden
flasks in. I do remember one of my friends being pushed to the car in a grocery
cart by one of the male cheerleaders. Good thing I was driving :-)
Now that I'm older, I'm glued to every play and get generally annoyed at those
around me who behave like I used to :-) I've made the rounds, living in
Oklahoma, Texas, New Orleans, New York, and Florida before returning to
Nebraska. I've suffered through the Okies and Longhorns superiority. LSU
football wasn't really a factor when I lived in LA, NY has no football to speak
of (ok, I did go to that really ugly Syracuse game that we lost), and
Florida--well, they're Florida. I'm fortunate to make it to all the home games
(and the ill-fated Rose Bowl). My theory is that if I ask enough people if they
have tickets, someone will eventually know someone who knows someone (and Gary F
has come through for me as well). I've not missed a game for lack of a ticket.
I LOVE Husker football, in fact I LOVE college football in general. I don't know
what the heck I'm going to do every Saturday until August!!
