After reading and enjoying the posts on this thread, I feel the need to
supplement my initial response (below).

First, I want to add my thanks to Mike Nolan for creating and maintaining
this List. Whereas I don't recall just when I joined the List, it was many
years ago. I do recall the play-by-play posts that Mike made for us. I
prefer having the information come to me rather than seeking it out as well.
I send informative e-mail messages to the MN4NE members.

I was born and raised in Lincoln. I was a freshman at UofN in '60. As a
kid, I attended many games with a knothole ticket and sat in the south end
zone bleachers. It may have been the OU game in '57 when I was seated in
those bleachers and two kids came up and sat next to me. We were talking
for awhile when one of the kid's dad came over and motioned for the three of
us to come down. He handed each of us a ticket for a seat in the west
stadium. The seats were on the 50 yard line! I thought I was in
heaven...until I realized that we were surrounded by Okies. Nebraska played
a good first half and were tied with OU at the half as I recall. I even won
a 50 cent bet with a loud OU fan.

He was the loudest of all the OU fans near us. I bet him 50 cents that the
Sooners wouldn't score anymore in the first half. He immediately took me up
on that bet. What he didn't realize, was there was only 15 seconds
remaining in the half. He hadn't figured out how to read the old, round
scoreboard lock in the north end zone. That quieted him for a bit. OU beat
us pretty bad in the end. But, I left happy as a lark...recovered the cost
of my knothole ticket and had a seat on the 50 yd. line.

In '59 I was in downtown Lincoln and wondering if I should go over to the
stadium for the OU game. Since it was chilly, cloudy and misting a bit, I
decided that I would take the bus home rather than sit in the rain and watch
us get beat again by OU. Oh, how I regretted that decision!

I got my first season ticket in '62. It is a long story which I won't go
into here, but what appeared to be a nasty deed by my friend and co-season
ticket holder, turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to
me. As a result of his nasty deed, in '63 I was able to obtain a single
seat in section 105 (40 yd. line east balcony). I retained that seat until
'82 when I was able to get 2 seats together in Sec 104, row 1. I have those
seats today. In the process, I became friends with the 'ticket-lady' who
helped me out in '63. Marge and her husband both worked at the university
and retired in '82. We have continued our friendship since '63.

I too took 6 years to get a BofS EE degree in '66. I moved to Minnesota
where I have lived since. Sue, my wife, and I both retired in 2000. This
year we traveled to the most road games ever...USC, ISU, aTm, and the Cotton
Bowl. We did miss two home games this year however.

Thank you to whomever started this thread. It certainly has been enjoyable
to read the many posts and learn a bit about many of you. Mike, I hope we
are able to get together next Fall during the season for a Husker Lister's
thing.
