Me, too. Age 43, Class of '85. I was conceived about the time
Devaney opened his first fall camp in Lincoln. The Huskers have
never failed to sellout in my lifetime and the only losing season was
2004.
My first visual memory of the Huskers is Tagge stretching for the
winning TD over the Tigers (a memory that was further reinforced by
my parents picking up a place mat with the photograph), though I
remember listening to the Wake Forest game on the radio earlier that
season as I "helped" my dad with remodeling our new house in
Imperial. I was still young enough that when the announcer on the
Oklahoma broadcast talked about the battle of the Big Reds and that
the "loser would be blue", I thought that meant that the losing team
would have to change uniform colors.
Like several of the other listers, I didn't attend UNL. I went to
school at Washington University at Saint Louis, whose seal is on the
northeast corner of the stadium in the general vicinity of my seats.
(Like Nebraska, Wash U was a member of the Missouri Valley Conference
when Memorial Stadium was first built in 1924.)
My introduction to this list was via word of mouth over a decade
ago. I've been (mostly) a lurker on this list since the early 90s,
when I found out about the list from a CU fan out here in the Denver
metro area. I first met him via the rec.sports.football.college
USENET newsgroup. Even though I've since inherited the operations of
the RSFC CFPOOL (see www.cfpool.com), time considerations have
basically reduced my online husker-related activities over the years
to just being a lurker on this list. I do still make the 1000-mile
round trip to attend all of the home games, though, and make road
trips to bowls and other games fairly often as well.
Being near Denver, of course, I get the opportunity to go to the game
when the Huskers come out to Boulder. The only one I've missed since
moving here in 1990 was the shocker in 2001. I also attended the CU-
OU game in 1992, so I've seen CU play at home eight times and CU has
yet to win.
I'll close here with a big Thank You to Mike and all those who have
contributed to the list over the years. Though there are more and
more alternative sources available for Husker-related news, the
community here is important. I've especially enjoyed this thread.
