Kim in New York brings back some memories. I too recall Mike typing play
by play of games, though I never had the bandwidth at home (in those
days) to take advantage of that, and I had way too many projects at home
in the early years of my career and family life.
I moved to OK in 1990 with two degrees from NU - one from Steve R's
present department (CS). My dad would send Sunday World Herald's to me
in vanilla envelopes so I could get my fill of Big Red results (he was
my own personal newspaper package).
I came across the old RSFC 'discussion' list in the early 1990's, and
then surfed around and found the Husker list almost accidentally. I
tried to do the e-mail thing, but at that time (1993 I bet) it
overwhelmed my inbox. I went to web archives and maybe for a while we
did news only. I still do web archives because I can then control when
I think about Husker stuff (e-mail management strategy).
Age wise, I'm middle of the pack - 46. I graduated the first time the
same year as Steven J (1983) from CS/Engineering .
Even though the list may not be quite the same as it once was, it is
still a very useful source of NU related info for me that I would not
normally find out. I never made it to one of Mike N's pre Spring Game
get togethers to personally tell Mike how much I appreciate his hard
work.
I have 'met' a lot of interesting people here, and found interesting
commonalities - e.g., Mike and I both taught the same class as graduate
students in the College of Business at Nebraska (MGMT 245 I believe) -
granted a few years apart. Lynette in California graduated from Benson
High (go Bunnies!!) in 1970 - the same year as my brother. Skip Burrell
went to high school with me. I had Roger Beverage's son-in-law in my
most recent MBA class (I don't think he liked me Roger!). I think Gary
Fead's family used to go to the same church I attended back in the
1960's/1970's.
Basically, thanks to everyone who has the guts to post here and perhaps
face the ire of others. Each day when I surf here, it is normally the
highlight of my day.
And of course, Mike N is the greatest!
What's the week in basketball look like? OSU will have a new player on
the bench this weekend - Adarius Bowman, their top WR, has joined the
shorthanded team who are down to 7 or 8 healthy scholarship players.
This was my link to something relevant other than middle aged
meanderings.
