[Husker] Positive thoughts

I agree that there has been progress and recruiting looks good. Of
course, the same could have been said about the 2003 season with an
energetic revamped staff and a 10-3 turnaround season. Just as it was
a huge mistake for Pederson to fire that staff, so it would be a huge
mistake to start the drum beat to fire Callahan. Callahan may be
struggling slowly to succeed, but he hasn't failed yet and appears
to be improving.

With respect to specifics of Mr. Kauf's post, I think I'd prefer losing
to CU and playing in the BCS Championship game to another season with
five "good losses".

Also, given how the Big 12 fared this year, I think next year's
schedule isn't all that tough. Texas struggled to beat 6-7 Iowa, Wake
Forest was blown out by Louisville, Missouri lost to Oregon State, A&M
got slaughtered by Cal, OK State struggled to beat 6-7 Alabama, and K
State got killed by Rutgers. If Kansas is much of a "test", that's not
much progress. Only USC looked good, but they're in Lincoln next year.

NU plays in one of the weakest divisions of the major conferences.
Likely, USC is the only team on NU's schedule that will finish this
year in the top ten and Texas and Wake Forest almost certainly will
be the only other ranked teams. Considering that NU plays 12 games and
there are fewer than 120 Division 1A teams, a schedule with 1 top-ten
team and 3 ranked teams seems about average. What would be an easy
schedule --- no ranked teams? Well, at least we don't have to worry
much about ranked teams from the Big 12 North.

If NU can't win AT LEAST 10 games next year (10-4, 10-3, or better),
it won't be because the schedule was too strong, it will be because
NU was too weak or didn't realize its potential.
