I'm not sure how you show "dramatic improvement" next year without a corresponding improvement in record. We played four top ten teams tough and "should have won" two of those. I can't imagine how Callahan shows dramatic improvement without affecting the record. A second season of five close losses merely emphasizes that Callahan can't win against good teams and would show me that we are standing still.
A 10-4 season next year is the minimum to keep the heat off of Callahan IMHO, although even that record would be a disappointment to me just as this year's 9-5 record was a disappointment. Still given the greater number of games, if BC can win 10 games per season, I'll stick with him as I did Osborne when he was winning just 9 per year.
OTOH, I can't imagine any situation where a coach would be fired with only three losses (wait, there is something floating in my memory that relates to this situation -- hazy recollections -- the name "Frankie" comes to mind . . . .).
