This game was soooooooo frustrating. Pretty much all of them have been
beaten to death, so I'll leave the poor horse alone. Lynne posted a
paragraph about Callahan's script and showing his hand. That brings up
something we've seen so many times this season of the offense going into
hibernation. This offense seemed like it had more three and outs and
fewer first downs than a lot of teams.
Player performance is a coach's responsibility. How can the offense
drive down the field so efficiently and then go quiet for so long? This
happened in a bunch of games this year. Callahan appears to be a
checkers player among chess players and as someone else mentioned the
offensive coaching staff melts under intense pressure with how botched
some of the end of game antics (& this wasn't the first time).
Callahan's attitude at the end of the game was brought up by another
post as well. And that NU is just his experiment in college ball.
That's seems very apt to me as his first year was his offense even
though it was a square peg in a round hole and didn't fit. But then he
runs the ball like crazy against OU. Why? Then give away a winnable
game against ISU by going away from running the ball which was working.
He does seem like he recruits well (or his staff does), but when it
comes to game day you never know what you might get.
I don't want him to get fired as that seems to just be the road to more
ineptitude. I want him to get his head screwed on straight. And if he
doesn't, I want him to leave in a year or two for greener pastures ;)
(I know there isn't such a thing).
When does baseball start??? :)
