I'm sorry Dick, we used that excuse this year.
This year's team is "dramatically better" than last yet our winning percentage is down (8-4 = 67% and 9-5 = 64%). We also ended ranked at the end of last year and probably will not this year. This decline is justified because we played a "tougher schedule." (OK, OK, four top ten teams this year at game time probably makes this true). But once used, the same excuse cannot be used again (Man Law #27).
At some point, Callahan must produce record-wise. By year four, Callahan needs to produce a record that at least equals Solich's second worst record (9-3 = 75%, but 10-4 = 71% is probably acceptable).
Don't read any negativism into these last comments. Even after the most recent two losses, I am beginning to see a future that includes Callahan as NU's head coach for the longer term.
