I thought that Dean Blevins was the QB who set up the play. He's a
sports announcer here in OKC and does a great job. A very nice fellow
who has fond memories of the OU/Husker rivalry.
I remember the game and the play, and seriously considered suicide after
the game. I was not alone that day. :-)

Subject: [Husker] Boise Freakin' State!! - Remembering 1976 NU-OU
Dick and other listers
I was at home this morning and dug out my old NU media guide. Old timers
like myself vividly recall the hook and lateral play and I found myself
retelling the story last night to my 23 year old nephew and his friend
who stayed with me on their way home from the Cotton Bowl. Anyway, here
is the description of the 1976 OU-NU game:
"... With 3:30 left in the game, QB Thomas Lott handed off to Woodie
Shepard, who through a 49 yard bomb to Steve Rhodes (from the OU 16 to
the NU 35). Later in the drive, on 3rd and 19, reserve QB Dean Blevins
entered the game, passed to Rhodes who lateraled to Elvis Peacock, who
went 32 yards to the 2. And scored on the next play with 38 seconds
left."
OU attempted only 2 passes in the game, completed them both, and neither
was thrown by their starting QB.
Dean Blevins started the year as their starting QB, had an injury not
normally associated with football sideline him (inflamed testicle I
believe, no I'm not making this up), and played just that 1 play against
NU.
Blevins can now be found as the Sports Anchor for Channel 9, the CBS
affiliate KWTV in OKC.
And given OU's loss, I can now begin again to watch the local news and
sports telecasts without sedation. And thankfully, no whining Kelvin
Sampson to listen to this year.
Happy New Year to everyone.
P.S. Gary, please don't go.
