They were actually just in their first OT. You're right on the triple OT rule 
to go for 2 after a TD. 

I have to agree with the announcers and someone else on the list who said that 
the odds were probably better that they go for and get the 2 and win than if 
they had continued to play OU into more OTs. OU had scored their TD in OT on 
just one play by AP. You have to wonder how long Boise State could match them--
even though IMHO they outplayed OU the entire game and well deserved this win.
