You are correct - for the same reasons that the athletic department could
say nothing about Lucky's medical problems, they can say nothing about personel
moves of this type. This has changed some in the recent years due to a
Federal HIPPA law and others. My daughter goes to college - I pay for it - and I
can not see her grades unless she signs a form saying it is ok. I hire and
fire all the time - and we can not discuss anything with anyone except the
termed person (even if her spouse or parent requests) . If the fired person
puts us as a reference - all I can legally say is they are not eligible for
rehire and verify their dates of employment - I can not say we fired them or why
they left. I have heard of law suits where the people sued because the
recomondation was not good enough! Most companies now will take the road
Callahan has taken, not to comment (even to the employee in some regards) as to
reasons for termination. Most may not like it, but it our sue happy society that
brings this on - not uncaring employers (or coaches).

I suspect there are legal reasons that SP and BC are
silent on the subject. If they say anything negative,
they could be sued.
