Hello Husker Fans,

MN> Time to move on.  How's the basketball team doing?  Um, on second hand,

I'll take the baseball...

So far so good.  We've had some bad breakdowns, but a good part of
that has to be contributed to not playing outside before the season at
all.

Our pitching staff looks good, especially the new young arms.  Some
real bright spots were Drew Bowman and Steve Edlefsen.  Drew started
last Friday's game for the suspended Tony Watson and pitched great.
No walks, 1 ER over 6 innings.  He throws hard, has a great breaking
ball and will be a great tool for MA.  Edlefsen had a rough first
game, but since then has been lights out and I don't think he's
allowed a run and maybe all of 2 hits.

We lost to Rice (gave the game away, see 4th inning - 6 runs, 2 earned
on 3 hits, 1 error, 2 BBs, 2 Wild pitches, 1 Passed ball, 2 HBP).  We
beat #27 Florida Atlantic 8-7 and they have some serious bats.

On Offense, Gerch and Brown are off to a great start.  Wehrle's got 2
homers and a .300+ average.  Opitz was the Big XII player of the week
last week with .600 week, .692 OBP, and scored five times.  Belfonte
might be the biggest suprise who was supposed to be a 'warm body' in
the lineup more or less.  He's got a .313 clip and a .560 OBP and
leads the team with 7 walks.

I think this Husker team will surprise a lot of people and end up
either in the Top 10 or around there.  There will definitely be times
where the youth on this team will cost us, but they've got heart and
some mad talent that will also surprise us at times.

FYI, the Huskers play Friday @ 1:00pm vs Iowa.  Saturday at 3:00pm vs
Notre Dame and 7:00pm vs host Stetson (pretty good team).
