Good Evening All:
I know this is not Husker related (unless you want to say that Denny will be calling Alex Gordon's major league debut for the Royals at some point in the future) and that I'm breaking the list rules big time but I just have to say a big congratulations to Denny Matthews, the voice of the Kansas City Royals for being selected as this year's Ford C. Fricke Award winner. Denny will be inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame on July 29th of this year.
I have had the pleasure of visiting with Denny many times over the years and even sitting the booth several times at Royals (now Kauffman) Stadium as he called Royals games. I always wanted to do play by play just like Denny when I was a teenager but soon figured out that wasn't going to happen so I did on air studio work for 20+ years mostly at KESY here in Omaha, and a few years of TV production on the old Raycom Big Eight Television Network.
Denny, Fred (White) and now Ryan (Lefebvre) have all made summers enjoyable listing to Royals baseball even if they don't make the playoffs every year like they did in the late 70's and early 80's.
Congratulations Denny on a well deserved honor.
