I certainly agree with you to a point. However, the minute you decide
to become a public figure, and football players at NU are indeed public
figures, you do basically agree to set aside some degree of privacy. If
Eric Crouch is seen eating at a Lincoln restaurant people notice and may
even bother him for an autograph or the like. His privacy is invaded. If
someone sees me at a Lincoln restaurant they probably don't even know who I
am and if they do they couldn't care less. Same with getting taken to the
hospital in an emergency unit. If it was me how many outside of family and
close friends would really care or even know about it? If it is Lucky the
inquiring minds of hundreds of thousands of people want to know and it is
plastered all over the print and electronic media. It just goes with the
territory.
Obviously, whatever it was that Lucky went through was serious. To be
taken to the hospital by rescue squad and put in intensive care speaks to
the fact it was serious. I am very glad he is on the road to recovery. I
think it is natural when a high profile athlete has this occur people's
minds and going to be inquisitive. The day and age in which we live where
athletes, and society in general, are into various things just adds fuel to
the fire. There is a line, of course, that is crossed into invasion of
privacy.
