Hello Husker Fans,
DR> There's also the type of head coach to consider. Callahan might be a guy
DR> who grooms assistants for head coaching positions and attracts assistants
DR> who want to go that route. As opposed to Osborne who had at least two former
DR> players on his staff. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but keep
DR> in mind the situation before extrapolating.
I think the issue is MUCH more the style of offense we run now. In
years past, there wasn't really anywhere for our coaches to go because
we WERE the pinnacle program for our type of offense. I think that
may have hurt some of our assistant coaches chances to move vertically
to a professional team or even horizontal to another college.
If I want to be an NFL coach, or even a HC in college, I'm not going
to a team that runs an offense that nobody else does. I'm going to go
to a team that runs a pro style offense and something that emulates
where I eventually want to be.
I will concede that Bill seems like the type of guy that wants his
assistants to be prepared for bigger and better jobs. He wants to
show them how to be a head coach and how to run a program. Just my
thought.
