[Husker] Another One Bites the Dust? Gilmore Gone?

I heard on the radio this morning that the University of Iowa football
team just lost an assistant coach to an NFL position. The relevance to
this discussion is they talked about a "rare opening" on the coaching
staff -- the first since 2002. So I don't think coaching staff
stability is necessarily a thing of the past. So much of the "loyalty"
comes from who the coaches are. You look at the coaches we had prior to
this staff. Most had ties to Nebraska before they started coaching
there, and you got the impression that they were more interested in
staying at Nebraska (Ron Brown, Turner Gill, etc.), than trying to move
up the ladder. I would venture a guess that not all of us have
aspirations to be the company president (I know I don't!), and that
there are many other aspects of a job that give us the fulfillment we
need. I think it can be the same in coaching. It's not necessarily
enjoyable to move a family around every 4-5 years.
This is in no way an indictment on the current coaching staff. I
haven't seen any hint of Coach C. looking to move on -- to me, that's
where it begins. I think if Bill stays for many years, more stability
will set in, maybe more people with ties to the Callahan Nebraska years
will be hired as coaches, and we may see a return closer to the way it
once was. Who knows.
Just my two cents.

With all due respect Bob. It just didn't have to happen. Certainly not
the way it did.
