[Husker] Another One Bites the Dust? Gilmore Gone?

At the time Urban Meyer was practicing the ultimate in coach-speak. He was
among the first of the candidates contacted. It seems the main issue was he
wanted more control over the team than SP was willing to give him. (From
what people have said, it was two similar personalities trying to deal with
each other). Remember, at this time SP thought he could bring in any one of
60 people at the snap of his fingers. Apparently their negotiations did not
go well and SP moved on.

The big concern with Meyer was Notre Dame was his dream job. It was somewhat
apparent ND would have a coaching change in the next couple of years. Meyer
believed (correctly) the job was his, so he didn't need to jump at the first
BCS offer that came along. In his dealings with SP it was win-win. He either
got the kind of power he wanted, or he waited another year or two and could
go to Notre Dame.

Remember he almost went to Notre Dame, but he tried to get similar
concessions from the governing board of Notre Dame and they would not grant
them. Florida was an attractive option.

Don't kid yourself, most coaches are confident (egotistical?) enough to
believe they can succeed where someone else failed.
