Anyone have a clue why we can't seem to sign taller DBs that are good
athletes?

Multiple reasons. Primary the skill sets must be perfect match for a
CB. A good WR can be quick or fast. My definition of quick is low 10
yard dash and 30 yard shuttle), fast is a low 40. A good CB, esp in a
tight man (which is what NU primarily plays) you must be quick and
fast. Not beaten off of the line but also not deep when there is no
safety help.

The conventional wisdom when you have an athlete like that is to play
him on the O. Impacts more games there. Since most D's have 6' and
shorter corners, if you can play a 6' 3" WR you have a mismatch every
game.

If you play him on D, he plays as well as the shorter corner except
against teams that have big/fast WRs (like TX did a couple years ago),
then he negates the height of the opposing WR.
