NU did indeed get Hohn and McCloughan but Sayers went to Kansas.  Hohn
was from Beatrice, McCloughan from Broken Bow, and Sayers from Omaha
Central.  Had Sayers never been injured or sports medicine was what it is
today Chicago Bears fans would be comparing people to Gale Sayers and not
Walter Payton.  But I occasionally think what could have been at NU when
I hear one of those names.  Had it been a year later NU may very well
have landed Sayers because Devaney was here by then.--Bob Beach

Nice post, Bob, and thanks for the memories. The first games I remember
hearing Lyell announce (I was just a kid) involved Hohn and McCloughan.
And Fred Duda. Those were fun days...everyone hoped NU would win but no
one was looking ahead before Big-8 season play had started, wondering
which BOWL GAME we might be in !!!

If KU hadn't gotten Sayers, the FOOTBALL side of their sports hall would
REALLY be threadbare  :-)

BTW, could someone jog my memory as to why we lost out on getting
McCloughan's son at NU ?  IIRC he went to play for the dreaded CU Buffs.
Did we not recruit him well enough ?
