Tommy Thompson just made reference to Kent McCloughan in a recent
post. Many of you remember him.....some are not old enough. He
was a speedster from Broken Bow and graduated from high school in
1961.

The thing I remember is NU could have had an offensive
backfield of Bob Hohn, Kent McCloughan, and Gale Sayers. These
are three of the greatest athletes anywhere and not just from
Nebraska.

NU did indeed get Hohn and McCloughan but Sayers went to
Kansas. Hohn was from Beatrice, McCloughan from Broken Bow, and
Sayers from Omaha Central. Had Sayers never been injured or
sports medicine was what it is today Chicago Bears fans would be
comparing people to Gale Sayers and not Walter Payton. But I
occasionally think what could have been at NU when I hear one of
those names. Had it been a year later NU may very well have
landed Sayers because Devaney was here by then.
Sincerely,
Bob Beach
