Tommy Thompson just made reference to Kent McCloughan in a recent post. Many of you remember him.....some are not old enough. He was a speedster from Broken Bow and graduated from high school in 1961.

A short interesting story about high school football against Broken Bow. I graduated from Valentine the same year. Broken Bow was playing at Valentine. Broken Bow was rated first in the state and Valentine was rated 3rd. At the end of regulation play....Broken Bow was ahead 21-18. They were about to score on Valentine as the game ended......however....there was a malfunction of the clock....and the Broken Bow coach lobbied the officials for more time.....the officials granted Broken Bow one.....untimed play to finish the game. Broken Bow chose to try a pass play and Jim Murphy from Valentine intercepted it in the end zone and ran 102 yards for a touchdown. Valentine won 24-21. This play was the basis for Murphy to be inducted into the Nebraska hall of fame. Murphy was an outstanding athlete and we competed quite well against Broken Bow for all four years McCloughan was in high school.
