[Husker] Showing the ropes

I find this "showing the ropes" concept a bit comical.
(1) There's no secret "ropes" that a head coach hides from all but his
chosen successor. If you're one of the top coaches of a team, you see
the "ropes" every day you work with the team and the other coaches.
(2) The only way to fully see the "ropes" is to be a head coach. I'm
not convinces that being an assistant head coach shows you much more of
the "ropes" than being, for example, the defensive coach IMHO. The
other coaches are not going to see you and treat you as a head coach
unless you ARE the ultimate decision maker for the team AND their
continued employment, and you're not going to fully understand what it
takes to be a head coach until you have those responsibilities.

Further thoughts...

I'm fairly certain that coaches grooming their successors is NOT the
norm. Most head coaches get their first such position by switching schools.

I agree that getting a SUCCESSFUL head coach from another IA team would
provide a greater degree of confidence that they were up to the job, but
there aren't a lot of those available and interested. More important,
it is my understanding that there are quite a few coaches (and players)
with connections to TO, and whom he trusts, that can provide insight to
Bo's personality and abilities. That provides a certain degree of
confidence that may be as valuable as the former.
