I assume you are talking about the Pelini hire? I have gone
on record several times as saying I am lukewarm on the hire. I
don't think it was a bad hire but with the reputation NU
supposedly has I would have thought we could have gotten a name
Head Coach. It appears that at least three of them would have
been available. Those being Rich Rodriguez, Turner Gill, and
Paul Johnson. I can't prove this but I have a gut feeling there
never was a coaching "search". I think it was Pelini's for the
taking the whole time. The rest of the "interviews" were pretty
much token. That is my opinion anyway and that is just my
opinion. I am not representing it as fact.
Maybe I should ask a reverse question. What is on Pelini's
resume that makes one believe he would be a good to great Head
Coach at the most storied program in the history of college
football? I didn't say Defensive Coordinator. I said Head
Coach. I am also on record as saying Bo could coach my defense
any day of the week. Don't push this farther than I am going.
If anyone says I don't like Pelini or I wish they never would
have hired him or the like that just isn't true. I am NOT saying
that. I am just saying at this point in time I have nothing to
base any feeling on one way or another. I am not predicting
success for Pelini as Head Coach nor am I predicting failure. It
is just way too early to tell with Pelini never having been in
this position before.
Sincerely,
Bob Beach
