I guess I am just not as aware of things as you are Bob. I never was a
fan of Callahan for a couple of reasons. First, he took someone elses
team to a Superbowl, then coached that same team to a pathetic record
the following year. Second, he never seemed to me to be on board with
any kind of Husker Tradition. Probably one of the additional reasons
was I had so much loathing for Pederson and the way he screwed up the
entire coaching situation from the firing a 9-3 coach to going more than
40 days without a hire that I couldn't in good conscious support
anything that person did or said.
I also am not as on board of your vast knowledge of what it takes to be
a Head Coach. Maybe its a gut feeling that Pelini will do well here.
Maybe its a trust that the athletic department and especially the AD
chair are in trustworthy hands now. But I do think this is a great
hire. Of course, if it proves wrong, I'm sure there will be several
posters that can point that out to me and the rest of the board. *smile*
When I look around at the "proven head coaches" that you seem to think
might have been lined up for the Nebraska job. I'm not sure any of them
are really all that good. Notre Dame has a storied coach. aTm had a
storied coach (actually a couple of them over the years in Sherrill and
the one that just left) and both of them came up short of expectations.
I will take Pelini overall the others I have read about with a possible
exception of Turner Gill. And I actually think those were the only two
that were serious contenders for the Husker Head Coach.
