I have never seen that particular phenomenon anywhere outside of 
Lincoln, but I experienced something similar at both bowl games against 
Tennessee. After those games a number of Vol fans went out of their way 
to congratulate me and shake my hand, even though I contributed little 
to NU's victory on either occasion. I've always thought that was very 
sporting of them.
