Two somewhat objective measures of NU fandom are 1) the sellout streak and
2) the willingness to stuff the ballot box in ESPN polls for the 1971 and
1995 teams and more recently for Oz vs. the Bear. Even if those poll results
are totally valid, I doubt they would have happened without our loyal
voters. Visiting coaches and TV commentators rate NU fans at the top. I
personally think the 25 years of the way Oz did things helped mold some of
the attitudes of fans for the better and that there is some lingering good
result. Perhaps some other schools applaud for the opponent when they leave
the field. I have not heard which other schools these might be and would be
interested in knowing. It would be a welcome thing to believe NU was not
alone in this even if some might think it diminishes our uniqueness. I would
consider it a kinship thing. But which schools might those be?
