Amen, Bob! I agree wholeheartedly. I haven't been to too many Nebraska
games since I live in the Chicago area but I did attend the Rose Bowl
which, we can painfully recall, was a rout by Miami over the Huskers.
Based on my experiences that day and in the days preceding, I would have
concluded that Miami fans were all "class acts" because every one of
them I met (maybe a dozen that I talked to) were gracious and this flew
in the face of everything I had ever heard about them. In fact, the
only obnoxious fans I encountered were some younger Nebraska fans who
were hammered and in-your-face belligerent and I had the privilege of
sitting behind them. I have never been in a fist fight in my life but
this was the closest to being in one.
The conclusions we draw can vary depending on the sample of our
experiences and what we have heard from others. Generalizing about any
group is dangerous at best. Based on my limited experiences during that
week would have led me to the conclusion that Miami fans were better
than Nebraska fans. Certainly, we had a lot more fans there and perhaps
the only Miami fans that made the trip were the true fans and the
"thugs" didn't make the trip.
