When Tom was here in Houston a few years back he talked about this.
Basically, he said if the recruit ask mostly questions about what NU could
do for him and his playing time and how many awards NU players won,
enhancing NFL prospects, etc. versus how he could help the team, expressing
interest in playing at NU because of academics, winning tradition, wanting
to play with the type of players he met at NU, etc. TO ran the other way.
He was judging the player based on whether he would fit into the team
concept and execute his role.

How does one evaluate that during the recruiting process? Looking at
the current list of verbal commits (all but two of which were offered
scholarships by the Callahan staff) whom would you judge as not caring
about the University enough to warrant a scholarship offer?
How important is that vis-a-vis actual athletic and football ability?
For instance, coming out of high school, I definitely ranked extremely
high in caring about the University, the fans, and winning, but would
have scored very low in the ability department. Should I have gotten a
scholarship over a Maurice Purify?
Saying "we need to recruit players who care about NU" is as easy to
say, and as difficult to define, as "call plays that work!".
