I keep hearing this kind of crap and it is irritating to me.
"If SP hadn't fired him, we would have fired both . . .AD and HC . . ."
Huh? After a 9-3 season on the way to a 10-3 season? I don't think so. The rationale to find out of FS's revamping of the program would continue was far more compeling to most fans than the urgency of getting rid of a 75% career coach. Dip back again to .500, then OK but at least wait out another season to find out. No AD gets fired for watching a head coach go from 7-7 to 10-3.
"the team's talent going downhill"
This isn't a given either despite the fact it gets repeated all the time. First, I read one quote this week that 8 of the 11 defensive starters from 2003 played in the NFL. I haven't rechecked the fact, but there were quite a few. Second, IF talent were actually down, AND Callahan and Co were great recruiters, why were so many of FS's recruits still starting the last couple of years? Last year there were what, 7 starters from FS recruiting classes on D alone? Fewer on O due to the change in systems, but hardly devoid of FS talent. In fact, NU had more senior starters than most Big 12 teams (and certainly more than OU and UMissouri).
That is simply revisionist history. The truth is that A. Frank isn't as good as TO (Did we expect him to be?) and B. SP wanted to micromanage the football program from the AD spot and FS wouldn't let him, so SP fired him despite a 9-3 record.
In my mind, I have a hurdle rate of .750 and if Bo outperforms that, he is a success and if not then I'll be complaining in four years. FWIW, I had stated the same goal for BC and wasn't complaining (at least not strongly) about his performance until the wheels came off the defense.

Had Frank stayed,
the team's talent going downhill, if SP hadn't fired him, we would
have fired both the athletic director and head coach (this isn't about
whether or not the guy would have been successful, it's about a point
of view), which is where we'll be if Tom's experiment doesn't work out.
