Here are some strength of schedule numbers to chew on.

1st column = NCAA rank based on cumulative W-L record of opponents

2nd column = Sagarin rank based on opponents ranking at time of game plus
location of game

3rd column = CBS rank presumably based on W-L records

 05 - 03 - 06 - Nebraska

 48 - 60 - 44 - Ohio State

 24 - 21 - 26 - L.S.U.

 80 - 32 - 75 - U.S.C.

 10 - 41 - 10 - Illinois

 39 - 59 - 37 - Oklahoma

 47 - 42 - 43 - W Virginia

 25 - 30 - 21 - Georgia

117 - 137 - 118 - Hawaii

 03 - 36 - 05 - VA Tech

 81 - 88 - 74 - Kansas

I am not suggesting that S.O.S. is more important than wins or losses. I am
just presenting some numbers on how the numbers shake out after the regular
season.

I s'pose one could argue that a 5-7 team, like Nebraska, was doomed because
they played a pretty tough schedule in 2008.

Or one could argue that despite U.S.C.'s not so strong S.O.S., they may have
been a contributing factor in their opponent's ultimate demise.

Or one could argue that the Warriors played a fairly weak schedule and went
undefeated as a result of their foe's ineptness.

Or one could argue that Virginia Tech played a pretty tough schedule and
their major blemish was an early season pasting by LSU. The 41 point loss,
although early in the season, could not make up for the losses that LSU had
later in the year.

VA Tech is the team that should be playing with a chip on its shoulder in
the bowl games. I'll bet that Bo will watch JR QB Sean Glennon, SO RB
Branden Ore to see how they do against KU. The good news is that the top
WRs (Royal, Morgan and Harper) are seniors.

Rather than yammer on.I'm curious if others have comments on the S.O.S.
numbers?
