Interesting. I've never heard that. My recollection is TO saying, "You 
play the game to win." (That increases the odds that he actually said it 
only slightly, but that's what I remember.) At the time, it never 
occurred to me that he wouldn't go for two until someone suggested it 
after the game. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who criticizes him for 
that decision doesn't get it, but that's just me.
