[Husker] Hopefully Bob Beach wasn't a betting man...

Remember the search firm. (They are the go between, the reason a coach can
say, "I have not talked to Nebraska".) They do the leg work. The background
checks and references. Osborne gave them specific criteria on character,
coaching ability, references etc and they found candidates who matched the
criteria.

Tom chose Bo because he believes it is the defensive end of the ball that
needs to be fixed right now. There is an attitude and a toughness that Bo
brought last time that is sorely missing right now. One of the concepts I
liked about Bo was tagging out, that is, every defensive player had to tag
the ball carrier before the play was considered dead. It produced hustle and
a pursuit mentality.

It is possible a coaching Neil Smith is hidden somewhere in the bushes that
would have proven to be a better choice. However, I believe Tom believes the
program is in a tenuous position right now and there is not the luxury of
trying a Gerry Faust from Moeller (oops bad example).

I think the bottom line is that Tom has been around the block and he sees
something in Pelini that intrigues him. Really, I think he knows his legacy
is riding on this choice.

Gerald
