I think that is exactly the consensus reason for keeping Watson. A: He provides continuity in a system that was very successful in recent years, and B: Watson allows Bo to focus on defense. The concern is obvious: Can Watson do as good a job as Callahan at running the offense or at least provide enough O that when combined with a top 20 D can win 9 or more games? A side benefit is that we are paying Watson anyway so it will help budgetwise. To clarify: You do not keep Watson because of the budget advantages, but it is a side benefit.
[ng - no humor intended].
Tough games next season: VT and Missouri are at home early with TT and OU away mid season. At this point, all other games appear winnable (perceptions will change by September and again by November). OU looks like NC contenders with all the youth on this years team. 9 wins should be the over/under (including a bowl game) if we can maintain #20 O and #20 D. [ng]
It is really too bad that we couldn't have gotten into a bowl game so that Bo could start working with the players right away. In any case, look for a stronger team since they will spend more time in the weight room. Maybe that is what the lines need anyway. [ng]

OTOH, by keeping Watson as OC, there is at least some continuity and
stability for the returning players, and Bo has the chance to keep the
offensive production trend going positive, while he concentrates on fixing
the defense (which I think we'll all admit was our glaring problem in 2007).
