Isn't every contract guaranteed? If not what is the point of a contract?
I don't know of very many AD's, at least at the Division I-A level, that
are employed without a contract. If you sign a contract for three years
you have guaranteed money for three years or at least the party with
which you sign the contract owes you the totality/balance of the contract
if terminated. That is why people sign contracts as far as I know to
lock in the money as well as other legalities.
That is why the assistants are owed money through next January unless
they find another job for equal or more money. It is the way the
contract is written. But, if there is no guarantee it makes signing a
contract a moot point.
If I was looking for an AD's job I wouldn't even consider a job were they
could just fire me at will and owe no restitution at all unless my
contract is up. Now there can be an additional buyout clause in a
contract that possibly what Pederson had and possibly to which you refer.
