I guess the only thing is ever since I have been cognizant of NU
football on TV, which is close to 50 years, the general perception of
the vast share of Husker fans is every National announcer is against the
Huskers. They all hate the Huskers and never say anything good about
them while bragging up the opponent and/or other teams. I don't believe
that is true at all. I travel a lot for my job and get into other
hotbeds of college football such as Alabama, Ohio, Tennessee, and etc.
Those people have the same perception of announcers and their team as
Husker fans do. It is just that no National announcer is going to know
the Huskers like we do. They don't follow any one team that hard or
that thoroughly. They can't. So when they speak we pick up on every
minute detail. We hear and analyze what they don't say as well as what
they don't say. I really think if we listened with the same kind of ear
when they talked about other teams we probably wouldn't feel that way.
I would probably be more in tune with a criticism of an announcer for
not liking the Huskers if it was balanced with comments about announcers
that like the Huskers or are at least neutral. But, I rarely if ever
see that.
