The college game is so different because not everyone plays
everyone, nor could they. What I mean when I say get help along the way
I am talking about teams getting beat that NU doesn't play. It is
unlikely but possible in a given year a good number of conference
champions could be undefeated. The point here is not how many will or
how many won't. The point is you can only control the games in which
you play. You have no control over teams which are not on your
schedule. You have to depend on others to take care of that for you.
The big thing is NU plays USC early in the season. By the time the
season is at the end it could be a win over USC might not be that big of
deal. People are assuming NU could beat USC and then USC goes
undefeated the rest of the way so NU's theoretical win looms large and
carries a lot of weight. But what if USC would lose 2-3 games after
that? That is really what I meant. It depends on a lot of different
circumstances.
