Steve Stone wrote an excellent prognosis of the USC game. I didn't realize that the center was out (I've been busy at work haven't kept up with the List).
Speaking with my brother in Omaha on Sunday, he stated the Coach Callahan wanted to shorten the game by running the ball and stuck to his game plan. How many times have we fans complained the even Coach Osborne gave up on the run way too early.
My only question is why there wasn't help in covering Jarret. However, if you review the game, Nebraska did a good job covering the short pass to the wide receiver (USC's best play all night). When Grigsby almost intercepted it, USC threw to the other side later on. And although Coach Carroll didn't say too much about Nebraska I felt that he went into a prevent offense in the second half as to not to lose the game.
Again, speaking with my brother, he said that Coach Callahan stated that they wanted to keep it close and try to win it in the fourth quarter. If you take away Nebraska's fumble and Grisgby gets the interception then it's a 17-21 game going into the fourth quarter and an entirely different game.
I for one am very proud of how Nebraska played. I saw a team that refused to quit, and a coaching staff that will substitute liberally to get a lot of players a lot of experience. This will pay huge in the Big-XII run.
Nebraska should have a single loss going into the Texas the game. And as with the USC game, Texas is beatable. There are just no guarantees.
The big sign to me is if Nebraska beats Troy as Nebraska should. Nebraska should win as they did over either LA Tech or Nichols State. I am excited for the game this weekend.
Go Big Red!
