Hello Husker Fans,

rt> Is anyone else fighting their emotions as Saturday
rt> nears?

Absolutely, 110%. I think it's because there's a CLEAR difference in
the team in the last 5 games, but it has come against lesser opponents
than we're facing Saturday. We need real proof.

In my mind there has been CLEAR improvement. We played weak teams
early last year and didn't look good, this year we have.

But here's the 'rub'...How much of that improvement has been a lack of
competition? KSU wasn't a great team, CU was on the verge of implosion
(although at the time, they hadn't imploded yet), Michigan was not a
top 10 team (not bad either) and we know LaTech and Nicholls are not
going to beat USC anytime soon. So how good are we?

I equate to the spring game example. Say the offense does really
well. Is it our defense that stinks or is our offense really good?
You want to have a good feeling, but the back of your mind you keep
hearing, "We need a better defense!".

Oh well, after Saturday we'll know. That's the bottom line. I'll be
out of my mind if we win, satisfied if we lose and it's a great game,
and disappointed if we get schlacked.

I hate predictions, but mine would have to be USC 30 NU 24, with USC
going up 2 touchdowns and NU coming back but falling short.

I'm convinced it all comes down to our defense. I really think we can
score on them, but I just don't know if we can stop their receivers. I
just don't. We need pressure on the QB, CONSTANTLY, and we need some
big plays from Grixby and Jones. IMHO, If we hold them to less than
20, we win. If we get in a scoring race, we lose.

I am scared because PC is a good coach and he has 2 weeks to prepare.
Although I'll bet VERY good money that our coaches have had 2 weeks to
prepare as well, if not more. I'll bet they spent all of a day
'gameplanning' Nicholls State and spent all last week with film and
schemes for USC. I have no proof or data to back this up, just a
hunch :)

I'm already an adrenaline filled mess about this game, I imagine I
won't be able to see straight Saturday night. GO HUSKERS!

rt> I am trying very hard, but not very successfully to
rt> (not) get my expectations up too high for the USC
rt> game. I, want this game badly.

rt> I think this Nebraska team turned the corner last year
rt> when several players finally got it, the WCO that is.
rt> The improvement in the confidence and timing of the
rt> offense was amazing. A light seemed to go on in the
rt> heads of several players all at once.

rt> The defense is and has been solid even though there
rt> are some concerns in the defensive backfield. I think
rt> the defensive line and LB's can make up for some of
rt> the DB short comings, and may be able to force some
rt> turnovers.

rt> Watching USC barely beat ASU and Notre Dame last year,
rt> I think they are ripe for a picking. I'm expecting a
rt> good tight game, and I know I'm setting myself up for
rt> disappointment.

rt> Disclaimer for Steve: Any comments about concerns in
rt> the defensive backfield should not be considered
rt> "bashing, petty, or mean spirited." I'm sure they are
rt> trying their best. lol
