[Husker] Taylor

It looked to me like Zac Taylor was throwing really well while moving around
and even off balance. I can’t remember if he did that well last year. He
really seemed locked in and in control. I wasn’t surprised at all that they
had only one hiccup to start off the game; all fall practice the word out of
camp from RBs to OL was how they were so much farther along and running
plays knowing where to go and what to do without having to think about it.
Wilson was noted as working hard to quickly learn the system, and having
Taylor to anchor things undoubtedly helped.

I am just amazed at how all four IBs are so strong in different ways, giving
the team so much more to work with, and the eldest Wilson is a junior. It
will be hard to replace Taylor next year, but having so much of the rest of
the skilled positions are young and knowledgeable of the system and two
experienced transfers learning the system sure seems good to me. I can
imagine that with a good showing this year and a vacancy at QB next year, NU
could be more competitive in recruiting.

The changes in the offense remind me of the time when TO realized the need
for speed in order to beat the Florida teams. I also like this system
better than the direction OU went.

For years I wondered why some of the techniques that Mike Shanahan uses to
get a perennially strong rushing game weren’t adopted in college, and now I
hear terms like waggle (granted that’s a pass play) showing up in Husker
games. The pass play to Herian was run by Elway more times than I can
remember (though it was usually in a shorter yardage situation and to
Shannon Sharpe.
