I thought that the money from the championship game was divided equally among the 12 teams. Do the two playing the game get more? If not the $$ doesn't really play into it.

Winning the North Division means a lot:
Winner of the North plays in the Big 12 Championship game, and makes a
statement (no matter how down the North appears---nobody will remember that, but
they will remember played for and won the Big 12 Title Game).
And Winner of the Championship game plays in a BCS Bowl game.
Our record doesn't matter as much at this point, as does getting to that
game for a chance to play in a BCS bowl game---Exposure, recruiting, $$, etc.
The teams stated goal is to Win the North!!
Reaching pre-set goals are important when re-building your program.
Win the next 3 we're 9-3
Win 2 of the next 3 (including Mizzou) we're 8-4 and Big Twelve North
Champions.
Yesterday's loss does NOT spell doom and gloom for the program, and the sun
did come up this morning.
