If SP is going to take back the BigXII from Texas in the next three years he
has a huge job in front of him. Colt McCoy grew yesterday - using his legs,
his arm, and courage to lift Texas to victory over a red hot Red Raider team
(he never went conservative - he took the chances he had to take). Texas
became Colt McCoy's team yesterday. Reminded me of 1999 when EC asserted
himself.
Frank has turned perennial loser Ohio into a winner in two years (tough to
overstate, e.g., how weak Ohio's lines were even last year). Relying on
special teams, an offense suited the horrible weather, and an aggressive
confident defense with speed at linebacker Ohio took the lead in the MAC.
They are on track for their first bowl game since 1968.
NU discovered how tough it can be to deal with the threat of a mobile QB
poses. He doesn't have to run to beat you. (Colt McCoy is going to pick up
where Vince left off in this regard too). I would still like to see more
emphasis on special teams (how long has it been since we saw a Groce type
punt return) and a Keyou Craver type pounding of receivers at the line of
scrimmage. Could they get beat any worse if they tried it? Of course we
would need a pass rush to help them out.
Winning the North is an inadequate goal - even for this year.
