Free Kick or Drop Kick ?

A free kick is basically the kickoff team. If a player makes a fair
catch (usually of a punt, but could be a kick off) then the receiving
coach can ask for a free kick. If the ball goes through the uprights
it is 3 points. The last NU kicker that I remeber putting the
kickoffs through the uprights was Kris Brown, from the 40 (?). So you
would need a fair catch at mid field.

So no, there could not have been a free kick.

Mike talked about a drop kick, which you could do, esp if you have a
WR/RB that can drop kick. The idea being 20 yard pass to the player, if
he is uncovered, then let him drop kick. Now is that a high % play ?
not really :-)

Hail Mary? If so, and if they made it, is a free kick worth 2 or 3
points?

>The other question is does any team have 'Hail Mary' play to bunches
up three wide-outs in a group, then send a lone receive to another part
of the end zone? With the distance the pass has to travel it would be
hard to fake out the defense. On the other hand, with as much time as a
quarterback usually has a couple of pump fakes may fool some of the
defenders.

The end zone is not that big. the defense can get anywhere they need
to before the ball arrives. Considering the DBs start in around the 30,
it is really hard to get behind them. The best chance at success is to
tip the ball & hope it falls into the right hands.
