At half time - #37 Wesch was practice kicking and was at about the 45 and
barely making them- so he might have had a slight chance - but was hard to
determine trajectory - I'm sure the coaches have at least looked at this.. He
kicked off a couple times and while the ball was a straight line drive - it did
make the endzone. Congdon was back in late in the game kicking off. The
coaches must have done some kind of analysis with hang time or something -
because it does seem Wesch has a stronger leg and kicks it deeper - although it
is not high off the ground.
First, it wasn't a 62 yard field goal. The ball was inside the 41,
so it would have been about 58yds with a 30mph tail wind.
Second, you write "the same kicker". NU should get someone who can
kick the ball that far. As has pointed out, many HS kickers can do
it. I'd be surprised if there aren't players already on the team
who can and believe it is a near certainty that there are NU students
who can. Wesch appears to have a stronger leg --- let him do it.
I concur with those who say there are issues with the special teams
that should be fixed.
