Nobody has directly answered your question, so I'll give my 2 cents:

I thought Callahan should have been calling his timeouts while Texas
had the ball, too ... at least one of those three timouts would have
saved us 20-30 seconds, which almost certainly would have given us
about 35 seconds to get in FG range, not 7 seconds. I haven't seen
anyone explain why that might not have been a good strategy, just that
the kids played hard. Yes, they did. The question was: was the last
two minutes of clock management a coaching error? I think so, unless
someone can tell me why it wasn't.
