[Husker] Bowden: Pass to Nunn was a mistake

I disagree - I think it was a great call - in the WCO that is basically a
run. Lots of things can go wrong on a run also. The only reason to run
instead of pass was if incomplete, the clock stops. Texas then gains 30-40 secs.
But the fumbled ball could have happened on a run as well as a pass. The
play was wide open, very high percentage and watching the running all day -
gaining 4 yards was going to be tough. Right before the play - I said we should
throw the ball downfield - you have to figure that would be WIDE open!

Even though it worked, except for a great hit that
forced the ball loose, Terry Bowden felt that throwing
the ball on 3rd down was the wrong call.

I agreed with Bowden on Saturday and still do. The
risks of throwing the pass (incomplete pass stopping
the clock or a higher chance of a turnover) in that
situation were too great. Even coming up short in
that situation, Nebraska would have punted the ball
and Texas would have gotten the ball with under 100
seconds, likely inside their own 20 yards, and no
timeouts to drive the field against the wind.
