[Husker] Field Goal?

It amazes me how people are so "pleased", almost giddy, with this loss. Why
is that? My guess - because we aren't in the MNC races like the old days so
it doesn't really cut like a knife (like when Correl fumbled in Austin) and
because so much emotional capital is invested in the new coaches they can do
no wrong. Bob says don't bring it all up, then spins for SP's boys - "just
keep your expectations low and give them lots of time". If we keep pouring
money into facilities (that the old regime didn't get) and salaries over
time, statistically the odds are we'll have a good run. We can't ever hope
to do it year in and year out again - things have changed (new gospel). I
personally think we could have kept doing it year in and year out with
Frank's new staff (retained our learning and mix in some new with Bo and
energize recruiting), but we'll never know.

Mike's right. It's done. This is a new program. Nothing we can do about
it now. Move on. I'll support the new. But, let's not try to weave into
the above that the new is better or worse than the Heritage Huskers. If I
told you so's start happening when they do win then the circle will start
again. I do like it that BC has figured out that running the ball is
important this year.

I watched the game again today and we made a tremendous amount of mistakes.
Things we've all learned the hard way - like "there is no excuse for letting
a punt hit the ground(George Darlington)", allowing long kickoff returns
(special teams emphasis gone), etc. Where have the great bump and run
corners gone (NU used to send corners to the pros routinely)?

The conventional wisdom is that the team that lost the first one has the
advantage when teams meet for a second time in a season. My take on this is
that this was NU's chance. A different Texas team will likely show up in KC
looking to prove that NU is not as close to them a people think.

I totally agree. There is really nothing to say about the Solich
situation that hasn't been said over and over. I certainly would have
rather beat Texas than lose and that is an understatement. But, with that
said I am really pleased with the game yesterday. It shows we can indeed
stay on the same field with the top teams in the country. That is something

NU couldn't do two years ago. To totally rebuild a team, particularly
offensively, takes a lot of time. I wonder how many of us thought after
Callahan's first year we would be this far along at this time? I know I
didn't. I think we have to keep in view the progress that has been made and

at the same time realize this still isn't the old NU that could just chew
people up and spit them out. That time may be here soon, though, but it
isn't here yet.

I never learned anything when I was the one doing the talking.
