[Husker] From the stands

Hello Husker Fans,

I'm so exhausted I'll keep this short. (Yeah right, have I ever
  done that?)

  1) Crowd noise was great, very noisy. I sit in a section that
traditionally has those 'blue hairs' that you talk about and it was
  plenty loud.

  2) 3 turnovers, 38 yards rushing, 4 sacks allowed vs 1 turnover, 128
yards rushing and 2 sacks allowed for Texas. If you had told me
those three things before the game, I'd guess we lose by 30. The
Huskers showed that even after making SEVERAL key mistakes they
still belong on the field with the best team in the Big XII

  3) Not 20 minutes after the game my phone rings. It's my only
Longhorn friend. He says, "Thanks for the gift. You guys beat us and
gave it away. I wish you guys would do this every time we...oh wait,
you have done this every time we've played."

  4) I hate to say it, because I love the guy, but Nunn made some big
mistakes today. The first, he needs to learn to run up and catch the
____ football. They can't hit you if you call for fair catch and
they have to clear you a path to the ball, don't be scared. That
hurt us more than once, and once it probably cost us 7 points.
  Second, the fumble of course.

  5) I absolutely despise the phrase, "We should have won." I always
figured that if you should have won, you would have won. That being
said, "We should have won" :)

  6) I really thought we outplayed Texas pretty well in the 2nd half.
Kudos to the defense. I believe they had the ball inside the 5 two
or three different times and couldn't put it in.

  7) I was screaming for a timeout on that last possession. A running
clock at that point was to TEXAS's advantage, not ours. That being
said, I was VERY impressed with the gameplan today and the gutsy
calls that Callahan was making. The i-back pass, the 3rd and 3 pass
that Nunn fumbled at the end.

Bottom line for the coaches, they really put the players in position
to make the plays we needed. He called the play that would have got
us the first down and sealed the victory. If you think about it,
2:12 left in the game. 25 seconds per play, plus an average of
15-20 seconds for each play (for the play itself plus the reset of
the ball). So they probably could have run out the clock without
getting a first down. Callahan put his players in a position to
win, they just didn't follow through.

On defense, more often than not Cos put his players in the right
spot to make the play. Sometimes we missed the tackle, but a good
team like UT is going to make you miss every now and then.

  SUMMARY

I loved how we played today, I hate how it ended. Are we cursed
against Texas? Corell Buckhalter's fumble, Jammal Lord's
interception, and now Nunn's fumble? All in just 7 games against
  UT? Ouch.
