I must reluctantly admit that I find myself warming somewhat to
Callahan. I was livid after the USC game about the game plan, but have
had my opinion swayed somewhat by the list that it wasn't THAT bad. One
little thing that I saw at the ISU game that I haven't seen a coach do
much (maybe I just wasn't watching) -- Callahan walked to each and every
player and shook their hand during the pregame warm-ups and had what I
assume to be some words of encouragement about the upcoming game. That
was cool to see.
I do find it ironic, despite all of the prior claims that the west coast
offense is a BALANCED attack, that we have returned to the running game
as much as we have. How can any Husker fan not be excited about two 100
yard rushers in a game, or almost 300 yards of rushing offense?
By the way, the Huskers used to have a very impressive won-loss record
in games where they ran for over 300 yards. Does anyone know how this
still looks? It seems like they were undefeated at one time in such
games...
Finally, one more question about Callahan. How long does he have to
stay at Nebraska before he becomes "one of us"? As we all know, Devaney
was not a Nebraskan, but he certainly "became" one. If Callahan is here
for 10 years, will he become one? 15? Part of me can see him staying
here for many years, if he has success and is allowed to do so.

Thanks for this post Skylar. The responses that I got attacking me as a
person that wishes to see the Huskers fail were numerous and alarming.
Clearly it must have been a poorly written original post and I'll have
to be more careful. I'll put my devotion to Nebraska football next to
anyone's..including anyone on this list. But for that many people to
attack me personally there must have been something wrong. Having said
that, I do not think Bill Callahan is a good football coach. I do not
think he is a particularly good guy. He is not the kind of person or
leader that I look up to as the coach of the team I love way too much.
I do not think he will be successful as the coach of the Cornhuskers
unless successful means being a B- team. And I think that we will not
be the coach at the start of the
2009 season. And I hope not. All of these things are my opinion, shown
my use of the term "I think". I'm a fan, a good one, and I am allowed
to have these opinions, I have earned them. But to say that because of
them I wish they all come true and that I want the team to lose because
of them is way out of line.
