Mike, I understand the comparisons. They are very valid. My take, however is that Pederson isn't a very "likeable" guy no matter where he came from. Nebraska roots...no matter. Now in Callahan's case it is different. I believe that I think 85% of the Husker Nation is changing. They love the multi-shifting pro-style offense that can actually come back from a deficit. They love big receivers like MO Purify that Solich never would have landed. They actually have embraced the "it's a business attitude" that Callahan brings to the table. I myself like him. I am "old school" Class of 83...first National Championship 1970... I was 10 years old. The NCAA is a changing animal as is the world of "bloggers" and internet recruiting. We are positioned to go with the flow and keep up with the Jones's. Hold on for the ride.

I think the big problem with Steve Pederson is that he's like the man
that Mom married after Dad died.
He's here, he mows the grass, he grills a mean steak, he's just not....
family.
He may never be family in the eyes of some of the kids, especially
because he threw out that old comfortable chair of Dad's and tore down
the picket fence Dad built by hand. The house will never look the same.
Callahan suffers from the same problem to a lesser degree, but his sin,
unpardonable in the eyes of some fans, is not winning a couple more games
in his first year because of what appeared to be a committment to change
rather than to a winning tradition that's older than most Husker fans.
Because of that, there are those who will always consider him no more
than a hired gun, which is what most head coaches are these days.
